Shyan Selah Live in Concert & Lecture

The lecture/concert will be presented by UW’s Black Student Union and is free and open to all in the University of Washington community and surrounding neighborhoods.

An avid supporter of education, Shyan, whose sophomore album will be released by Bungalo/Universal Music Group this summer, is including this event at University of Washington as part of his “Universe City Tour” taking place at schools and colleges across Washington State.

Known for his unique brand of fusing entertainment projects and events with social commentary and progressive movements, Shyan's recent accomplishments include having his music licensed by major television networks such as MTV and CBS/Paramount, the founding of the Brave Foundation to support arts and education for local youth, and endorsements from Darryl "DMC" McDaniels of Hip Hop legends, Run DMC, and Dr. Maxine Mimms of Evergreen State College (Tacoma) and the Maxine Mimms Academies for Suspended and Expelled Youth.

Shyan’s appearance at the Ethnic Cultural Theater will include musical performances of songs from his upcoming album as well as a lecture on his years in the entertainment industry and its influence on black culture and vice-versa – particularly as it relates to the culture of Hip Hop. Also to be discussed is what it takes to accomplish dreams and goals in a highly competitive workforce while staying both driven
and positive.
